Kluk is a simple new tab experience for Chromium browsers. It includes 8 themes with different styles.While building this, we thought this would be a simple yet fun analog clock add-on to the browsers. Luckily people enjoyed Kluk too, you can check out the post below :)
Overview
Zeynep is a talented front-end developer. Besides sharing a life with her, we love working on side projects together. We think about how we can produce something except our professional duties.
Zeynep really likes to write CSS on Codepen. She wanted to make something with an orbit. And the story of Kluk began with a simple theme on Codepen.
Then we said, “What if it would be a browser extension?”. By the way, at that time, I was looking for different new tab experiences. I wanted to change my boring new tab page.
Anyway... We built this with 4 themes and connected Google Analytics. Then noticed that 700 people started to use it in a few days. We checked metrics and store comments. We decided to add new 4 themes.
Now Kluk has 2000+ daily users, with a total impression of 6 millions. Although new tab extensions have more impressions by nature, the stats make me happy :)
After we released that update, I talked to people, read the comments; some users want new themes, theme customization options, and to be able to upload their wallpapers. These all make sense and maybe one day we will add them to Kluk. However, some users want to see their calendars, create a to-do list, see the current weather conditions, etc. We may gain 10x users if we apply these requests. There is no end to it, but I wanted to keep Kluk simple and minimalist as a 'stylish clock extension'. Therefore, you only see the clock on it. We did not make a super app :) One day if I change my mind and update the extension with a new approach, I will add it here. Thanks to Zeynep for work with me<3
